Today the RIAA introduced a new rule that streaming content would be counted in the process of awarding Gold and Platinum certification, not just digital or physical sales alone. Last year ‘(Kissed You) Good Night’ was awarded Gold status for selling over 500,000 copies of the single. Today Billboard announced that it would be changing the rules regarding placement on their Country charts. Instead of just taking into consideration radio play (which it now counts all stations for placement, not just country…), it is now counting digital sales and hits off of Spotify. Because of this sudden change, Taylor Swift’s ‘We Are Never’, which is undeniably pop, is now #1, with her unreleased-to-radio single ‘Red’ following behind it. Won’t Swift ALWAYS be #1 now?
